A Level company - serving Financial District, NY

DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown in Financial District: What to Know First

We install, replace, and repair DuraFlex chimney caps and crowns throughout the Financial District, with most jobs completed in a single visit once parts are confirmed. A standard DuraFlex cap replacement here runs $430 to $890 installed, while crown repair typically lands between $650 and $1,400 depending on the extent of cracking and whether we’re coating or rebuilding. This page is for DuraFlex owners in prewar conversions, newer high-rises, and the mixed residential stock along Water, Pearl, and John Streets who want to know what’s failing, what it costs, and what the fix actually involves. Call (551) 213-4778 for a written estimate.

We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a manufacturer-authorized shop. That matters because it means we recommend the part that solves the problem, not the part the brand’s program tells us to push.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

DuraFlex makes solid liner and termination components. We’ve installed and serviced enough of them across lower Manhattan to know exactly where they give out first, and it’s rarely where the manufacturer’s documentation says to look.

  • DuraFlex 304L alloy cap bases corroding at the rivet points. We see this on buildings within three blocks of the East River, where salt air and the constant damp coming off the water accelerate galvanic corrosion where the stainless cap base meets the aluminum fasteners. The cap looks fine from street level; up close, the rivet heads are crusted white and the base flexes. We replace with matching 304L bases and isolated hardware, which stops the reaction rather than slowing it.
  • DuraFlex multi-flue caps with undersized screen mesh. The standard mesh on several DuraFlex termination products is 3/4-inch, which keeps out birds and raccoons but does nothing for the smaller debris and occasional bat. In Financial District buildings with mature sycamore and ginkgo nearby, seed clusters build against the mesh, reduce draw, and create a backdraft smell in upper-floor units. We swap to a 5/8-inch mesh cap from the same product family and the pressure differential normalizes within a day.
  • Crown spalling above DuraFlex oval-to-round adapters. The adapter is a transition point that moves more than the surrounding masonry during freeze-thaw cycles, and Manhattan gets about 40 nights below freezing per winter. The crown cracks first directly above the adapter because the steel expands and contracts against rigid mortar. We see hairline cracks at the adapter’s 10 and 2 o’clock positions repeatedly. Our repair includes a flexible crown sealant and an expansion joint cut around the adapter, which the original install rarely has.
  • Prefabricated termination kits shifting on older terra cotta flues. In the Financial District’s prewar stock, we regularly find DuraFlex termination sections clamped to terra cotta liners that have deteriorated to the point the clamp has nothing to bear against. The cap sits cocked, gaps open around the base, and rain runs directly down the outside of the liner. We build a properly bonded crown at the flue termination, then mount the DuraFlex cap to a solid anchor. The cap isn’t the problem; the crown underneath it is.
  • DuraFlex cap lids on buildings with regular rooftop foot traffic. Maintenance crews, window washing rigs, and HVAC service walk roofs constantly in the Financial District. We see bent cap lids and dented spark screens from equipment being set down on top of chimneys. DuraFlex stainless is good but not abuse-proof. When damage is cosmetic, we straighten and re-bend cold, which preserves the factory finish. When the screen’s compromised, we replace the whole termination rather than patch it, because a half-fixed spark arrestor is a fire code issue.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Process

Every job starts the same way: we look before we quote, and we hand you the evidence before we touch anything.

  1. 1
Call and a live person. You reach a dispatcher at (551) 213-4778, not voicemail. We ask about the building type, the symptom, and any prior work. If you have photos from a home inspection or previous sweep, we’ll look at them before we arrive.
  2. 2
On-site Level 2 camera inspection. A named, uniformed tech shows up with the scope and runs the camera down the flue. You see the footage in real time: cap condition, crown integrity, liner state, the adapter if you have one. Photos and written readings are yours whether or not you hire us for the repair. That’s Clause 4 of the Haven Standard, in place since 2009.
  3. 3
Written price before any work starts. You get a written scope and a written price while the tech is still on site. Not a range, not a “we’ll send something.” A number. Clause 1 of the Haven Standard is have it in writing, and we don’t deviate.
  4. 4
Parts decision made with you. For DuraFlex work, we default to OEM when the part is in production and available within a reasonable window. When OEM lead time is six weeks or the failed part is one DuraFlex has quietly revised, we use matching-grade aftermarket components and tell you exactly why. You approve the part before we order it.
  5. 5
Repair or replacement, then documentation. The fix gets done on the scheduled day. Every job ends with a photo record of the completed work, and every job is backed by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, we make it right.
  6. 6
Written warranty, not a verbal one. You walk away with a written warranty on parts and labor, a photo record, and the camera footage if you want it. Nothing is promised verbally that isn’t also on paper.

What DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in Financial District

Here’s what we quote most often in the Financial District, in real dollars. These are installed prices that include the inspection, the part, the labor, and the documentation.

  • Single-flue DuraFlex cap replacement: $430-$680. Stainless cap, matching base, installation, and photo record.
  • Multi-flue DuraFlex cap (2-3 flues, custom fit): $780-$1,250. Cut-to-fit base, 5/8-inch mesh option, isolated fasteners.
  • Crown repair with flexible sealant (no rebuild): $650-$980. Crack filling, expansion joint cut, water-seal coat.
  • Crown rebuild around existing DuraFlex termination: $1,100-$1,875. New mortar crown, proper slope, anchor points for the cap.
  • Full replacement: crown rebuild plus new DuraFlex multi-flue cap: $1,750-$2,950. Typical for older Financial District buildings where both failed at the same time.

What moves the price: roof access difficulty, whether we need a lift or scaffolding, the flue count, and whether the crown needs patching or a full rebuild. We don’t mark up parts. DuraFlex components are sourced through Haven’s buying network specifically to keep customer prices honest, and you’ll see the part cost as a line item on your written quote. Why Financial District Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Financial District for DuraFlex Work

Because when we recommend a $2,000 repair, we hand you the camera footage that proves the repair is necessary. No other chimney company in the Financial District has been documenting every job with photo and video records since 2009, and none of them put the price in writing before any work begins as a matter of policy. That’s how we’ve done 38,000-plus inspections and cleanings, every one with a written price up front and a documented record at the end.

Our techs know DuraFlex product lines well enough to tell you when a DuraFlex part is the right call and when a HeatShield or Gelco component does the same job for less money. Corrine Halstead, who runs Level Two Chimney Financial District, learned flue inspection and liner assessment at Apex Technical School in Queens and has spent nearly two decades on Manhattan roofs. When a DuraFlex cap surprises us, the camera footage makes it plain. The camera doesn’t guess, and neither do we.

Every tech is background-checked and uniformed, license information is on the page, and you get a text when your assigned tech is on the way. Clause 3 of the Haven Standard covers arrive on schedule and verified crews. If you get a written quote from another company, bring it in. We’ll give you a free second opinion on it, line by line. If we did the work and it isn’t right, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and fix it.
