Olympia Chimney Crown Repair Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Olympia Chimney Crown Repair: The Financial District Owner’s Guide

We stock Olympia Chimney crown repair materials on our trucks and install them throughout the Financial District. A typical crown rebuild or reseal here runs $450 to $1,100 installed, depending on how much of the existing crown has spalled or cracked, and most jobs are done in a single visit. Most owners find the problem after a heavy rain, when water stains appear on the ceiling near the chimney chase or drips show up inside the firebox. The crown is the concrete or mortar slab at the top of the chimney that sheds water away from the flue and brickwork. When it fails, water gets into places it shouldn’t, and it doesn’t stop on its own.

Which Olympia Chimney Models This Applies To

Olympia Chimney manufactures stainless steel chimney systems and components under several product lines, and most of our crown work in the Financial District involves their Ventis and Excel series. The Ventis line is common in condo and co-op conversions around Wall Street and Battery Park, where zero-clearance fireplaces or wood stoves vent through a factory-built chimney chase. The crown we’re repairing is the weather-exposed top assembly: the stainless steel crown cap, the storm collar, or the masonry crown poured around the chase termination.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha worth knowing: an Olympia Chimney crown isn’t one universal part. The Ventis line uses a galvanized or stainless crown that fits specific flue inner diameters, typically 6, 7, or 8 inches. The Excel line runs larger and is often paired with a masonry-style crown in rooftop installations. If your building has the original crown still labeled, the model number is usually stamped near the top termination. If it’s gone, we measure the flue outer diameter on site and match it to the right Olympia spec. We also stock quality aftermarket crown caps and wash-topped crowns in standard sizes, which can save 15 to 25 percent over OEM on certain Ventis applications, and we’ll tell you plainly when OEM is the better call for warranty continuity.

Signs Your Olympia Chimney Crown Repair Is Failing

Signs Your Olympia Chimney Crown Repair Is Failing
  • Water staining on interior ceilings or walls near the chase. This is the most common first sign in Financial District buildings. The crown’s job is to keep rain off the top of the masonry or chase, and when it cracks, water tracks straight down through the structure.
  • Spalling or crumbling on the crown surface. Freeze-thaw cycles near the East River work on concrete crowns relentlessly. Small cracks admit water, winter freezes it, and pieces of the crown begin flaking off. This is called spalling, and it means the crown’s structural surface is actively failing.
  • Rust staining on the storm collar or chase top. Factory-built Olympia systems use a metal storm collar that sheds water where the flue exits the crown. When the collar’s sealant fails or the crown shifts, rust forms and capillary action pulls moisture downward.
  • Efflorescence, the white powder on brick or stone below the crown. That’s salt being drawn out of the masonry by water moving through it. It means water is getting past the top and running down.
  • A musty smell or damp firebox after it rains. Moisture has made its way from the crown area all the way down to the appliance. In a Financial District high-rise, this can mean the crown has been failing for a while before anyone noticed.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In the Financial District, an Olympia Chimney crown rebuild or reseal typically ranges from $450 to $1,100 installed. The spread comes down to three things: whether we’re resealing and patching an existing crown or pouring a new one, whether the stainless components like the storm collar or chase top need replacement, and how accessible the roof termination is. A straight reseal with crack routing and a waterproof membrane on a readily accessible crown lands at the lower end. A full crown replacement with new formwork, new concrete, and a new Olympia-compatible storm collar lands at the higher end.

What’s included, always: a written price before work starts, the parts, the labor, and the cleanup. We name the condition of the crown in the report, not just the recommended fix. You walk away with a written scope, a photo record of the crown before and after (Haven Standard Clause 4 requires that on every job), and a written warranty on the work. We carry both OEM Olympia components and quality aftermarket equivalents from brands we trust, sourced through our buying network to keep the price honest.

What you can safely do: look at the crown from a window or adjacent roofline with binoculars. If you see visible cracks, missing chunks, or rust streaks, that’s enough to justify a professional look. What you shouldn’t do: climb onto a Financial District roof with a bucket of sealant. Crown work at height, especially on converted loft buildings and older masonry stacks near South Street Seaport, is genuinely dangerous. A fall from a rooftop termination isn’t a minor risk, and resealing a crown without addressing the underlying movement or spalling means the repair fails within a season. We use ladder safety systems, tie-offs where required, and trained techs who do this work year-round. If you can see damage from the ground or a window, call (551) 213-4778 and we’ll take it from there.
