Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed
Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Famco Chimney Cleaning & Sweep in Financial District: What to Know First
Famco chimney cleaning and sweep in Financial District typically runs $189-$389 for a standard annual sweep with a Level 1 inspection, and $349-$649 when a Level 2 camera scan is required, which is common in older Financial District masonry stacks and converted loft buildings. Most Famco jobs are completed in a single visit, and every quote is written before work starts, never given verbally over the phone. If you own a Famco fireplace, stove, or chimney component and need it cleaned, inspected, or assessed, this page covers what we find, what it costs, and what documentation you walk away with. Call (551) 213-4778 and a live person answers, 24/7.

We’re Level Two Chimney Financial District, an independent Famco service provider. We are not affiliated with or authorized by Famco, but we clean, inspect, and service Famco components daily across the Financial District, from prewar co-ops near Wall Street to converted warehouses off Water Street.
How Famco Products Fail, and How We Fix Them
Famco makes solid, serviceable chimney components. The failures we see are rarely about manufacturing defects. They’re about installation context and deferred maintenance. Here’s what shows up on Famco jobs in Financial District buildings.
- Famco flue liners with glazed creosote buildup (Class II or III). This is the most common finding. Famco stainless liners hold up well, but when a fireplace burns unseasoned wood or the damper runs partially closed, creosote condenses faster than a standard sweep schedule accounts for. Class III creosote is the hardened, tar-like glaze that brushes won’t remove. We don’t scrape it and call it clean. We document it on camera, classify it, and recommend a chemical treatment or mechanical removal depending on the liner’s condition and age. If the liner is intact, we clean it. If it’s compromised, we say so and give you a written price before any work proceeds.
- Famco fireplace dampers failing to seat fully after years of thermal cycling. On older Famco cast-iron dampers, the frame warps slightly and the plate no longer seals. You feel a draft in summer, or smoke rolls back into the room on startup. A brush sweep won’t fix that. We inspect the seating surface, measure the gap, and either adjust the linkage or quote a replacement. We don’t sell a replacement damper until we’ve shown you the gap on camera.
- Famco chimney caps and spark arrestors clogged with soot and nesting debris. Financial District buildings attract pigeons, and Famco caps with fine mesh are effective but prone to clogging. We remove the cap, clean the mesh, and check for rust-through at the fastening points. A clogged cap restricts draft and pushes carbon monoxide back into the living space. That’s not a scare line. That’s what a restricted flue does.
- Improperly flashed Famco chase tops on converted loft buildings. In the Financial District, many chimneys run through flat or low-slope roofs. When the chase top isn’t sealed correctly, water works into the brick and shows up as spalling, the flaking and popping of brick faces. On a Famco chase top, we check the sealant condition, the crown slope, and the drip edge. We photograph every finding. If the crown is cracked but the structure is sound, we say so and quote a repair. If it needs a full replacement, we quote that too, in writing.
- Famco wood stove connectors installed with insufficient clearance to combustibles. We see this in smaller Financial District apartments where a Famco stove was fitted into a converted space without the proper offsets. The connector pipe sits too close to framing. This is a code issue and a fire risk. We measure the clearance, photograph it, and document the violation. We’ll clean the stove and flue, but we won’t sign off on an unsafe installation. Clause 4 of the Haven Standard requires a photo record on every job, and this is exactly the kind of thing that record is for.
Our Famco Chimney Cleaning & Sweep Process

Every Famco job follows the same sequence. No shortcuts, no upsells, no work started before you approve a written scope and price.
- 1
Call and schedule. A live person answers. You tell us what you have: a Famco fireplace, a wood stove, a liner. We ask about the building, the roof access, and the last sweep. You get a text when the tech is on the way.
- 2
On-site assessment. Our tech walks the fireplace or stove, checks the damper operation, looks at the firebox and smoke chamber, and sets up drop cloths. We protect the floors before anything else happens.
- 3
Level 1 or Level 2 inspection. A Level 1 is a visual check of accessible areas. A Level 2 adds the camera down the flue. We run the camera on every Famco job where the home has changed ownership, the appliance was modified, or there’s been a chimney fire. In the Financial District, with older masonry and converted spaces, Level 2 is the standard we recommend, not the exception.
- 4
Cleaning and creosote classification. We sweep the flue, remove creosote and soot from the smoke chamber and firebox, and classify any remaining creosote using the NFPA 211 scale. You’ll hear us say the classification out loud and see it written in the report.
- 5
Parts decision and written price. If we find a failed damper, a cracked crown, a rusted cap, or a damaged liner section, we show you the photo. We explain OEM versus quality aftermarket options. For Famco components, OEM parts are often still available, but a quality aftermarket liner or cap from DuraFlex, HeatShield, or Gelco is sometimes the better value and carries the same or better warranty. The choice is yours, and the price is in writing before we touch a wrench.
- 6
Documentation and warranty. You get the photo record, the creosote classification, the written scope, and the written warranty. Stamped on every job is the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right.

Why Financial District Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Financial District for Famco Work

The camera doesn’t guess, and neither do we. Since 2009, we’ve inspected and cleaned more than 38,000 chimneys, every single one with a written price before work started and a documented photo record when it was done. That practice became Clause 4 of the Haven Standard, and we’ve run it continuously since before regulators or insurers asked for it. On a Famco job, that means you see exactly what we saw: the creosote class, the damper gap, the crown crack, the liner condition. Not a summary. The actual images.
Our techs are background-checked and uniformed. License information is on every page. When we need to source parts, we pull from DuraFlex, HeatShield, Gelco, Olympia Chimney, Famco, and Copperfield through Haven’s buying network, which keeps prices honest. And if you have a written estimate from any other company, bring it to us. We’ll give you a free second opinion on it, line by line.
FAQs
No. Routine chimney cleaning and inspection by an independent service provider does not void a Famco warranty. We follow NFPA 211 standards and document every step with photos, so if a warranty claim ever comes up, you have the record to support it.
Once a year, at minimum, and more often if you burn more than two cords of wood per season or notice any smoke rollback. Financial District buildings with shared flues and older masonry should not skip the annual sweep. We’ll tell you if your usage pattern calls for a different schedule. Call (551) 213-4778 and we’ll walk through it.
Sometimes. If the damage is isolated and the surrounding liner material is sound, we can often install a DuraFlex or HeatShield repair section. If the liner has widespread corrosion or separation, replacement is the honest call. You’ll see the camera footage before you make that decision.
Most Famco sweeps are scheduled within 5 to 10 business days. Roof access and building management coordination can add time on co-op and loft conversions. We’ll give you a firm schedule when you call, and a text when the tech is on the way. Call (551) 213-4778 for availability.
No estimate fee, and no charge to look. The only cost is the service you approve in writing before any work begins. If the camera shows the chimney is clean and safe, we’ll tell you that plainly, hand you the photo record, and leave.
